Learn More About Our Current Projects
The MHICC initiative has several ongoing projects as part of our efforts to expand students’ access to evidence-based mental health care.

The Michigan Mental Health Landscape Survey
The Michigan Mental Health Landscape Survey is an annual effort to better understand how community colleges across the state are supporting student mental health, and how that support is evolving over time. This survey is sent to staff identified as key decision-makers in their college’s mental health strategy at each of Michigan’s 31 community and tribal colleges.
The survey collects information on each participating college’s available mental health services, campus counseling staff and their clinical capacity, and the use of community partnerships, digital mental health interventions, or other approaches to expanding students’ access to care.
Findings from the landscape survey are used to update the Michigan Mental Health Resource Navigator for Community College Students (MiNav) and the MiTRENDS Mental Health Hub, ensuring these platforms reflect the most current landscape of available services.

MHICC Capacity Building Partnership Program
The MHICC Capacity Building Partnership Program involves closely partnering with colleges to build capacity to support student mental health by learning more about their student mental health needs and identifying areas for growth. The MHICC team offers two versions of this program:
Care Expansion Program: MHICC works with colleges to conduct a rapid on-campus needs assessment that identifies both institutional strengths and key areas for growth. Based on these findings, we collaborate on a tailored action plan designed to meet each college’s unique needs. Over the next 12-15 month period, MHICC provides funding, dedicated technical assistance, additional staffing support, and strategic guidance to help colleges implement and sustain the goals identified in their action plans.
Action Planning Program: MHICC conducts a rapid on-campus needs assessment identifying institutional strengths and key areas for growth, and collaborates with the college to create a tailored action plan. This shorter, 3-month program provides some funding, and may be useful for colleges that want to know more about their students’ mental health needs before launching larger-scale changes in the way they are supporting student mental health.

MHICC Community College Mental Health Learning Collaborative
The MHICC mental health learning collaborative brings together mental health decision makers from across Michigan’s 31 community and tribal colleges, including community college mental health providers, administrators, and staff members. This statewide learning collaborative is designed to provide attendees with an opportunity to both hear from experts in the field of student mental health and learn from peers in similar roles at other Michigan community colleges.
If you have ideas about what you would like to see covered in the learning collaborative or would like to join future sessions, please contact our team. We’d love to discuss this with you!
